भारतीय हथकरघा की बहुत कढ़ाई शैलियाँ हैं जो क्षेत्र और कपड़ों के अनुसार बदलती हैं।
भारतीय कढ़ाई की मुख्य विशेषताों में से कपड़ों को अती सुंदर शृंगार से सजाने का विशेष प्रथात्मक तकनीक है। उदाहरण के लिए, भारत में महिलाओं की पारंपरिक पोशाक साड़ी को सजाने के लिए कढ़ाई का उपयोग हमेशा से किया जाता है।
भारत में कपड़े को फूलों, पौधों, पक्षियों सहित विभिन्न कढ़ाई से बुना जाता है। इसके साथ मोतियों को जोड़कर चांदी या सोने के धागों से भी पिरोहा जाता है।
